The repower center is one of our primary areas of concentration. We have assembled teams of diesel, gasoline, carpentry and machining experts. Teams assigned to a repower project will remain with that project until its completion. Team members are not removed from the job to handle other tasks. We found this work process results in the highest quality workmanship and assures timely completion of the repower project.

All structural modifications and associate component fabrication is performed on-site, thereby controlling costs and eliminating the potential for sub-contractor delays.

Gas to Diesel Conversion w/ Yanmar 4LHA-STP 240 HP

Al Grover’s installed 2 NEW YANMAR 240 hp, custom engine mounts, NEW Genset in this sea proven express fisherman. This combination gives an extremely fuel-efficient ride without loosing a good turn of speed. Canyon fishing is now easily within reach.

Just got back my gas to diesel repower from 454 gas Crusaders to Yanmar 4LHA-STP diesels @ 240 hp.

On the way back from Freeport to SI on Friday with a little chop, I noted these speeds with full tank:

2500 rpm - 19.3 mph

2700 - 21.3

2800 - 22.7

2900 - 24.6

3000 - 25.7

3100 - 27.2

3500 wot - 30.3 mph

I'm a happy guy.

The diesels seemed quieter than my Crusaders, but that could just be my imagination.

This repower is a complete restoration. We installed NEW Yanmar 370 hp and a genset. She turned 28 kts! She will get her hard top, complete electronics package, and more to become a rare sportfish.

1988 Shamrock 20

Gas to diesel repower with Yanmar 150 HP

1988 Shamrock 20 was crawling along with a Ford 302 gas engine. Al Grover’s Repower Team installed a 2002 YANMAR 150 hp diesel to make this boat reach 23 knot cruise and 29 knot top speed! The owner is enjoying his 5+ miles per gallon.


1989 Tiara 36 Convertible "ATTITUDE ADJUSTMENT"

Gas to diesel repower with Yanmar 370 HP

Came to Al Grovers for a faster cruise speed and greater range. Team Grovers swiftly removed the 2001 Merc 7.4 Gas engines and prepared the bilge for the new 2002 YANMAR 370 hp diesels. On the January 26 sea trial, she performed perfect and delivered a 26 kt cruise!


1993 Steiger Craft 21 Block Island

The Team at Grovers removed the old Volvo Gas 130 hp that cruised the boat at 16 mph and topped at 24 mph. They installed the NEW Mercruiser 1.7L DTI diesel 125 hp and Alpha drive to achieve a cruise @ 24 mph and top at 31 mph.


1982 Fortier 26 "FOUR BELLS"

Diesel to diesel repower with a Yanmar 230 hp

The owner could not stand the loud noise of the old Isuzu 145 hp engine. This bass boat chugged a 14 kt cruise and 17 kt top speed. Team Grover’s expertly installed a NEW YANMAR 230 hp in a repainted bilge along with a new custom fabricated panel. The boat now achieves a 21 kt cruise and 25 knot top at very quiet noise levels. The skipper can now hear the bass swim.


1989 Tiara 36 Convertible "Singlephile"

Gas to diesel repower with Yanmar 350 HP

Like most Tiara's, this boat needed new diesels to reach its potential and satisfy the owner. The old Crusader 454 gas engines were replaced with new YANMAR 350 hp. The ride improved with less spray, better running angle, quiet and smooth operation, double the range, and much faster speeds.


1986 Topaz 27 "SEA BABY"

Volvo Diesel to Yanmar diesel repower

Old power was Volvo 40 Series 165 hp only reached 16/20 knots. NEW YANMAR 6LP 250 hp diesels were expertly installed by Grover's to cruise at 28 knot, top at 31 knot. The owner lost very little fishing time and gained an amazing boat.

Gas to diesel repower with a Yanmar 6LP 300 hp

We removed the old Chrysler and installed a NEW YANMAR 300 to deliver a 20-knot cruise and 23-knot top speed. This repower truly redefined this downeast classic with a faster cruise, longer range and quieter overall operation.


1985 Groverbuilt 28' with a NEW YANMAR 190 hp

 

This is Al Grover's Sr.’s 1985 Groverbuilt 28' with a NEW YANMAR 190 hp. Dad requested quietness and premium reliability and was very happy with the results.

Diesel to diesel repower with a Yanmar 6LY 420 hp

We removed the old Volvo 71 Series 358 hp and installed a NEW YANMAR 420 hp to deliver a 19-knot cruise and 21-knot top speed. Owner is now ready to do some long-range canyon fishing with his sea proven lobster style fishing vessel.


 

1989 36 Tiara

Gas to diesel repower with a Yanmar 6LY 350 hp

This is the owner’s (Dante Grover’s) personal boat that underwent a full up refit. Performance improvement was dramatic from old gas 454 power plants that labored to get the boat on plane and consumed 35 gph cruising at 16 knots (down wind). With the highly efficient 350HP Yanmar’s, she now cruises at a brisk 28 knots and 22 gph. New technology Northern Lights generator provides full utility of all its power requirements with minimal sound and vibration. Other notable changes are teak holly sole within cabin, radar arc and new in the dash electronics.


 

Triple Diesel Repower, 1997 Sunseeker 48 Superhawk!

OLD power was Triple Merc 502 with a short range of a couple of hours running time.NEW Power is 2001 YANMAR Triple 6LP-STZE 300 hp with Merc Bravo 3 drives. The center engine is jackshafted. The custom engine mounting system features all heliarc welded 1/2" aluminum 6061 series. The cruise speed is 45 mph and the top speed is 52 mph.


1986 Aquasport 29 Tournament Master "Empty Pockets"

Team Grover replaced the old, inefficient Crusader 350 ci engines with NEW YANMAR 230 hp diesels in this very popular express sportfishing boat. The boat now runs much faster cruising at 26 knots and tops at 30 knots. The owner gained substantial speed, better sea handling (especially in a following sea) 60% more range, without loosing smooth & quiet operation.


1982 Aquasport 29 "Slammer"

OLD power was T/Merc 5.7 cruising @ 20 knots burning 28 gal/hr. NEW 2001 T/YANMAR 230 hp cruise @ 25/26 knots burning just 16 gal/hr. SLAMMER tops out @ 30 knots now and ranges far from home.


1986 39 Searay

Gas to diesel repower with a Yanmar 300HP

Owner is extremely please with the newfound speed of 26 knots at cruise burning a miserly 18 gph total. This is a huge difference over the old 40 gph 18 knot cruise they had previously with the 454 gas power. Now the owner doesn’t have to stop and fill up every time they want to use the boat.


1984 21 JC Boat "KRISTEN"

Diesel to diesel repower with a Yanmar 350HP

"Kristen" glided all the way through the RPM range right up to 3400 RPMS with an outstanding top speed of 25+ knots! As we throttled back to recommended cruising RPM of 3100 she locked at a solid 22+ knot cruise at 14 GPH.

"Kristen" went from a 15 knot cruising speed at 12 GPH to 22 knot cruise at 14 GPH. The top speed went from 20 knots to 25 knots.

CAT Diesel to Yanmar Diesel Repower of a 32 Topaz

Repowered with a pair of Yanmar 6LYA-STE 350HP. Old cruise was 20 knots, top speed 25 knots. New Yanmar power increases the cruise to a blazing 28 knots and a top end of 30 knots. Owner loves the newfound speed, quietness and the throw you in the seat acceleration!


Diesel Repower of Dyer 29

Classic New England style, this Dyer 29 Bass Boat received a new YANMAR 250 hp. The experienced technicians at Grover's performed a clean job and made her cruise 19 knots and top at 22 knots. The owner gained more pride in his treasure as he cruised away in awe of his Dyer's true potential.

Volvo Diesel to Yanmar Diesel Repower of a 28’ Cape Dory Sport.

Repowered with a Yanmar 315HP from Volvo 200 HP. This David Gear designed rounded chine hull yielded a nice conformable fuel efficient 21 knot cruise, minus the excessive smoke the owner would experience with the Volvo.


Gas to Diesel Conversion, Rampage 24, 1987 (also completed 1988)

Repowered from Chrysler 360 HP gas to Yanmar 4LHA-STE 230 HP diesel. Shafts changed from 1 ¼" to 1 3/8", removed strut and bored to accommodate the new cutlass bearing/shaft along with new gauge panel. All these modifications are an everyday occurrence for the repower team that pride themselves in delivering the final product on time. Owner reported back he is enjoying the quick pace of 23 knot cruise and the extremely fuel efficient 4LH’s.


Gas to Diesel Conversion, 1975 Chris Craft Tournament Sportfish

Repowered from gas guzzler 454 Crusader to a Yanmar 6LP-DTE 250 HP. Old cruise 20 knots at 25 gph and a 28 knots top end with fuel consumption that made the OPEC Cartel smile. With the new Yanmar power this classic Chris cruises at 26 knots at 14 gph and a top speed of 29 knots.


Perkins Diesel to Yanmar Diesel Repower, 1980 34’ Mainship Trawler

Repowered from a very problematic 150HP Perkins diesel to the smooth fuel efficient Yanmar 6LP-DTE 250HP. Old cruise 9 knots and a top speed of 12 knots. New Yanmar power makes what was a very sluggish Mainship seem like a hotrod going to a cruise of 16 knots at 7 gph and a top speed of 20 knots.

Now the owner is planning trips to far away area’s he never could have dreamed of reaching before.


1989 Egg Harbor 37 w/ Yanmar Power.

Gas to diesel conversion with a pair of Yanmar 420HP and Northen Lights 8kw generator.

"Lift Away" from Boston came here at 14 knots with gas motors and burned a full tank. She left here cruising at 27 knots and only burned a half-tank of fuel! This was achieved by new twin Yanmar 420 hp, Dante's expertise and his team's professional experience.

Asked owner Gary Bloom what he thought: "All I can say is WOW!"


1971 Classic Egg Harbor 37 w/ Yanmar Power.

This meticulously restored classic came in with old International Palmer 392, 265 hp gas engines. "DULCINEA" was cruising at 15 knots while burning 25 gal/hr. Team Grover installed new YANMAR 250 hp 6 cylinder diesels. She now does a comfortable cruise at 18 knots burning just 18 gal/hr.


1987 Tiara 3100 "SHOW BOAT" Yanmar Power.

Gas to diesel conversion with a pair of Yanmar 230HP along with a full up restoration. She cruises 26/27 knots fully loaded and only burns 12 gallons/hour.


Detroit Diesel to Yanmar Diesel Repower of a 37 Topaz.

Repowered with a pair of Yanmar 420HP. Owners says " We can now carry a conversation as we are running, no need to wear the head phones, extremely quiet and FAST. Nice not having to clean up all the leaking oil in the engine room after each trip. First class job done by team Dante"


Gas to Diesel Conversion of a 31 Searay Amberjack with 230HP Yanmar Diesels.

Scott Reports "Now we can go to the canyon, troll all day and return on 190 gallons of diesel. Also the boat handles totally better in a sea over the old gas power, best decision I ever made!"

Black Fin 32 Repower With Yanmar Diesels. Now this Blackfin has long distance capablility over the old 454 gas power plants. Huge resale increase on the sea proven hull.


Gas to Diesel Conversion of a 40 Huckins

Gas to Diesel Conversion of a 40 Huckins using fuel efficient Yanmar LP-300-STE V drive Inboards. Owner also had installed a new 7KW Phaser Generator. Owner could not believe how quiet they were. Totally impressed with the complete installation.


 

2001 Steigercraft 23 Chesapeake

This fisherman came straight from the dealership to our REPOWER CENTER. He wanted the new Mercruiser 5.0 L gas engine changed to the YANMAR 190 hp with the Merc Bravo III diesel outdrive. The boat now cruises 22 knots and tops at 26 knots, burning less fuel and providing reliable performance with reduced maintenance.



I/O Gas to Diesel Conversion of a Steigercraft using Yanmar/Mercruiser Bravo III system. Owner reports "The boat is a rocket!" Along with the fuel economy of the Yanmar makes for a great combination.


Gas to Diesel Conversion of a 31 Tiara Express with Yanmar Power.

Repowered with twin Yanmar 230 HP diesels, extremely fuel efficient and fast on a time honored hull.


Gas to Diesel Conversion of a 33 Egg Harbor Sportfisherman.

Replace the twin gas guzzling 454’s (32 - 34 gph cruise) with very quiet fuel-efficient Yanmar LP-STE 300 HP diesels. After a full season (150 hours) owner is still raving about the fuel economy and turn of speed the Yanmar power had afforded his Egg Harbor. Cruised from Long Island NY to Norfolk Virginia, throughout Chesapeake Bay area and only filled up 3 times!

Complete retrofit (stringers, decking, electrical, etc) along with a Gas to Diesel Conversion of a Classic 31 Bertram. Repowered with 230 Yanmar power and a 3.5KW Phasor Generator. This vessel now commonly makes trips to the offshore grounds of the Atlantic Canyons.

Replaced gas guzzling 454’s to a pair of CAT 3208 320HP Diesels. Owner enjoy’s his boat so much he leaves it in the water at Al Grovers for the winter to take out for winter time rides (block heaters are installed).
